In early March we had hopes that things would be stable by August. That is no longer realistic. After much consideration, our committee has elected to cancel the 2020 Staff Brewing Competition at UC Davis.
This decision did not come easy, and several alternatives were considered. Most of those alternatives involved compromising the enjoyment of the tasting event, and that event which brings us all together as a community is just too important to us.
Due to the current stay at home order by the Governor, the Staff Brewing Competition planning committee has decided to reschedule the judging and tasting event for later in the fall. The new date for the tasting event is Saturday, August 29, 2020. We have transferred all registrations for teams, tasting tickets, etc. to this date. If the new date works for your schedule, you do not need to do anything else.
In light of recent events and campus policies, we would like to inform you that the 2020 Staff Brewing Competition at UC Davis tasting event date is being reconsidered and could possibly be rescheduled, including judging and submission timelines.
Our planning committee is monitoring the situation closely and will continue working with UC Davis officials as the situation progresses.
Registration is now open for tasters and brewers for the 6th Annual Staff Brewing Competition at UC Davis! The tasting event is on Friday, April 24, 2020 from 5 – 8 pm at the Walter A. Buehler Alumni Center.
It is that time of year to get your teams together and sign up to brew (and taste!). This year’s competition will feature Porters, “Hazy” NEIPA’s, and the return of ciders!
Registration, for both tasters and brewers, opens Friday, January 17th. The tasting event will be on Friday, April 24, 2020 from 5 – 8 pm at the Walter A. Buehler Alumni Center, so mark your calendars.
Well that was fun! For the first year, the 2019 competition sold out in advance of the tasting event with 200 registered attendees, 20 brewing submissions, and 12 unique teams. We also featured our largest raffle drawing, with 20+ prize packs from 18 local sponsors.
The 5th Annual Staff Brewing Competition at UC Davis featured 3 style categories of pale ales, sours and ciders. Teams were comprised of UC affiliates (staff, graduate students, faculty, and alumni). The winners of each category were announced at the tasting event, held on Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Walter A. Buehler Alumni Center.
This year's judging panels were comprised of Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) certified judges, non-BJCP certified judges, and industry professionals.
Tonight was a success and we're happy to announce that we'll back back next year along with a new lineup of tasty drinks.
